There are things that remain in the pop culture of a country for decades. One of those is a very young Mina from the 60’s singing the old hit Mille Bolle Blu making an amusing movement with her fingers on the mouth while pronouncing the word “bolle".
A silly name for a silly song, from which Cristina took inspiration for naming her bakery adventure. A kind reminder that we can be frivolous while working on important business!
Mille Frolle Blu is an ambitious project of slow pastry.
The passion for baking blended in a simple act of kindness.
The love for baking runs in the family. As a child, you could easily find Cristina in the kitchen baking with her mom. Baking was an activity to do together, a sharing moment: a moment of love. Maybe this is the root of a recurrent saying in the Mille Frolle Blu vocabulary: Baked with Love.
Cristina, a super shy, goofy woman that I cannot define any different than adorable, is the brilliant mind behind the project. Yes, she is cute, but don’t be misled, she is still one of the most determined and driven person I know. If she puts her head into something, you know she will get there.
Mille Frolle Blu, is what she put her mind on a couple of years ago. At that time she was working as a communication consultant for some companies and organizations. Pastry was just a big passion to cultivate in the free time.
Something changed on the Christmas’s Eve of 2020 when Cristina opened an Instagram account: Mille Frolle Blu. A white page, as she said in the caption of her very first picture, to share her love for baking, and reflect on the beauty of this art.
A simple post on Instagram has been the beginning of a wonderful adventure.
It's awesome how far she has come in such a short time. She successfully completed a professional pastry program, and after two years that Instagram page is no longer white. Cristina filled it with pastries tips and stories using a clever storytelling in which her passion for baking and her knowledge as communicator perfectly blend. So, if you get there, don’t expect to find the usual Instagram account sharing quick and dirty recipes and tips.
Mille Frolle Blu is a place you have to explore with no rush, a delicate collection of reflections, tips and personal thoughts about pastry and about life. It is a personal narration of Cristina's journey to becomes a professional baker.
Looking back now, nobody could ever have guessed where this path would take her. She simply decided to change route in her life and try to build something that belonged to her and made her proud. The pandemic life definitely played a role in this decision. That pausing time allowed her to reorganize her priority and reminded her that we need to take care of our mental and physical health.
She took her time to understand what to do and with no rush she went from the idea of following a course to the decision to make of Mille Frolle Blu a profession.
A huge step that of course brings with it uncertainty and fears that Cristina is not afraid to share with others, knowing that it is part of the normal process of starting a new professional adventure.
If you are any close to Trieste, you need to try Mille Frolle Blu's pastry, it is a pure expression of the love that Cristina puts in the preparation. If you receive one of these little art piece you can’t help but be happy.
Everything at Mille Frolle Blu is absolutely hand-made in Cristina’s tiny kitchen.
Sustainability is the key word that summarize the whole process. Cristina’s idea for Mille Frolle Blu comes from her will to promote an ethical way of working into the baking industry. This not only means using sustainable ingredients and procedures, but also working in a healthy way with sustainable time and goals.
Precisely to be faithful to her principles she decided to carry out the project at home by opening a home bakery business. A solution that allows her to have full control of her working time and space.
Since February 2023 Mille Frolle Blu ~ pastry in the wind is no longer just an Instagram account, but a newly established micro pastry in the windy city of Trieste.
Working exclusively under commission and happy to personalize with love and care every order Cristina is ready to listen and create exactly the pastry that you need.
What to say ....
Amor, impazzisco di gioia
se vedo passeggiar nel vento,
le mille bolle (frolle) blu!
... as Mina sang in that old hit!
I personally find this story fascinating. The bravery of re-starting from zero a new professional life, the core values of the project, the honesty of the storytelling with which Cristina guides us in her world: this is incredibly inspiring to me!
I can only wish the best to Cristina and invite everybody that has the chance to try her pastries. For those who are far away, I am deeply sorry, you are missing something delicious, but I still hope this story can serve as food for some good thoughts and reflections.
